About Our School

Brighton Cooperative Preschool (BCP) has educated preschoolers in Livingston County, Michigan since 1967. BCP is a licensed non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status committed to providing the highest quality preschool education at the lowest cost to community members. BCP is a licensed cooperative preschool through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. Our preschool is managed through a collaborative effort between our board of directors and a hired teacher. Every hired teacher at BCP meets criteria set forth by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and maintain all certifications and continuing education requirements. BCP is an independent, non-affiliated preschool located within Chilson Hills Church.

 

About Our Teacher

Ms. Jacqueline Murphy is a preschool teacher with over ten years of experience in the classroom. She joined Brighton Cooperative Preschool in 2019. Her three life passions are her daughter, teaching, and performing arts. Ms. Jacqueline has extensive experience in preforming arts as a former business owner who offered dance, theater, and vocal lessons to children of all ages. She earned her degree in Early Childhood Education in 2012. Since then, she has received additional training in programs including Handwriting Without Tears, Making Great Readers, Motor Moms and Dads, Project First Steps, Zoophonics, and High Scope/Creative Curriculum. Ms. Jacqueline is a kind, thoughtful, creative and fun teacher who loves watching children learn new skills!

 

About Our Board of Directors

Our board of directors are volunteer parents of currently enrolled preschool students who take on important leadership roles such as president, vice president, treasurer, membership chairperson, secretary, fundraising chairperson, fieldtrip chairperson, media chairperson, health chairperson, event chairperson, and grounds keeping chairperson. Board members make important decisions that effect our school including annual budget and tuition rates, scheduling, fundraisers, contracts, teacher hire, events, fieldtrips, classroom supply purchases, classroom updates, and preschooler scholarship opportunities. All board members qualify for a 10% discounted rate on tuition.

  • President

    Our board president presides over all board meetings and is a representative of the school. He or she partners with our teacher to make sure events are scheduled and the classroom is fully stocked with necessary supplies, applies for licensure as needed, renews insurance contracts annually, oversees teacher contracts and site contracts, acts as a liaison between the church (landlord) and the preschool, occasionally writes checks, appoints committee chairpersons and oversees standing committees and board positions to ensure BCP is running smoothly. Our board president also acts as a chairperson of the scholarship committee.

  • Vice President

    Our vice president maintains registration records and ensures all student files are complete, maintains medical emergency files onsite, oversees the background check process, schedules parent assistants in the classroom, issues parent classroom job responsibilities, schedules cleaning, participates in scheduling events, and works with our teacher to distribute a monthly newsletter. Our board vice president also acts as a chairperson of the scholarship committee.

  • Treasurer

    Our treasurer maintains a complete set of books and submits complete financial statements at monthly meetings. He or she collects tuition and fundraising funds, makes bank deposits, pays bills, issues teacher payroll checks and paystubs, presents a proposed annual budget for board approval, and submits quarterly tax forms to the hired accountant. Our board treasurer also acts as a chairperson of the scholarship committee.

  • Membership Chairperson

    Our membership chairperson handles all inquiries about applications for enrollment, distributes enrollment forms and packets as needed, keeps an updated student enrollment roster and reports new enrollments or withdrawals to the board, keeps an updated student waiting list, assists vice president in ensuring all student files are complete and maintains emergency medical files onsite, arranges visits for prospective members and notifies the teacher when a visit is scheduled, works with media chairperson to advertise BCP and increase enrollment. Our board membership chairperson also acts as a chairperson of the scholarship committee.

  • Secretary

    Our secretary attends all board meetings and distributes meeting minutes to board members. He or she maintains an alumni file, works with vice president and membership chairperson to insure all enrollment forms and health appraisals are complete and up to date, acts as our primary contact with health related absences, provides parents with illness policy information, assists with contact tracing if needed, coordinates with the teacher to hold a fire drill and tornado drill every one-three months and maintains records at the school. Our board secretary also acts as a chairperson of the scholarship committee.

  • Fundraising Chairperson

    Our fundraising chairperson researches and presents new fundraising ideas to board members, coordinates fundraising activities, coordinates with the media chairperson to increase member and community participation with fundraisers through advertising, keeps records of all fundraising activities at the school, works with the treasure to ensure all fundraising records and deposits are accurate, and acts as a chairperson of the scholarship committee.

  • Fieldtrip Chairperson

    Our fieldtrip chairperson researches and presents new fieldtrip ideas to board members, coordinates fieldtrips, coordinates with the media chairperson to advertise fieldtrip events to enrolled students and their families, works with the treasure to ensure all fieldtrip funds are collected and paid, and acts as a chairperson of the scholarship committee.

  • Media Chairperson

    Our media chairperson updates the BCP website, private Facebook page, and public Facebook page frequently to include all events and activities, works with membership chairperson and teacher to increase community participation and enrollment, works with fundraising chairperson to advertise fundraising events, and acts as a chairperson of the scholarship committee.

  • Health Chairperson

    Our health chair person is our main contact for health related concerns. He or she maintains current information on county health department guidelines and recommendations, ensures that our state required student health appraisal forms, vaccination status, and waiver forms are complete and filed with the state, and acts as a liaison between BCP families and the county health department. Our board health chairperson also acts as a chairperson of the scholarship committee.

  • Event Chairperson

    Our event chairperson plans 4-5 events during the school year. He or she may post events on social media platforms, provide fliers, or newsletters regarding event plans. He or she works with our treasure and other board members to ensure all events are planned within BCP budget requirements. Our event chairperson also acts as a chairperson of the scholarship committee.

  • Grounds Keeping Chairperson

    Our grounds keeping chairperson schedules monthly deep cleanings, delegates cleaning tasks to parent assistants when appropriate, assists with classroom organization and up-keep, ensures that the playground is clean and well kept, participates in classroom decorating, and may participate in small handyman projects such as hanging pictures and heading committees for classroom improvement projects. Our grounds keeping chairperson also acts as a chairperson of the scholarship committee.
