What is a cooperative preschool? A cooperative preschool is organized by a group of families with similar philosophies who hire a trained teacher to provide their children with a quality preschool experience.
Where can I find the school calendar? A school calendar will be provided to you during the first week of school and posted on our Facebook page. Brighton Cooperative Preschool follows the Brighton Area Schools yearly calendar and inclement weather policies.
How often am I required to participate in the classroom? Each family is required to have at least one participant within the classroom working as a teacher assistant on a rotating schedule. Meaning, all teacher assistants take turns and share duties. The frequency of teacher assist days depends on student enrollment, typically families volunteer once per month. This can be more or less depending on the size of the class.
Are parent assistants required to have background checks? The state of Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs requires unsupervised classroom volunteers to have a completed background check. We also require families to submit their sex offender registry results, per the Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
How do I complete the background check process? A board member will help you set up your profile through our school’s account and provided you with instructions and assistance as needed. Fingerprinting is completed through Identigo at your scheduled appointment time and typically costs around $70. Background checks only need to be completed once every five years.
Am I required to hold a classroom job? Yes. Some parent jobs require frequent involvement while others require very little. We encourage all parents or caregivers to review the parent job list found on the Articles of Agreement form and choose a job that best suits their skills and talents as well as schedule.
What is the non-refundable $170 registration and supply fee used for? The registration and supply fees collected during the enrollment process are used for administrative costs associated with enrollment such as phone bill, website, paper and printer ink, and classroom supplies, student supplies, building supplies.
What does my student need to bring on the first day of school? Please send your child to school each day with a preschool sized backpack large enough to fit a standard folder and a spill proof water bottle labeled with your child’s name. All other educational materials will be provided to you. We happily accept classroom donations, this is not required.
Can I take a tour of the preschool and meet the teacher before enrolling? Absolutely! Call us at 810-229-8583 to schedule an appointment.
What is the extended day program? Our extended day program runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays after our standard class is finished from 12:00pm-2:00pm. It is designed to help our 4 year old students transition to a more typical school day and prepare for kindergarten. Students eat lunch together, enjoy additional play based learning activities, and have more time to practice skills needed to successfully enter into kindergarten.
What is my preschooler’s tuition used for? Annual student tuition covers BCP’s annual costs including rent, teacher pay, accounting, liability insurance, and building insurance. BCP is a non-profit organization and we strive to keep costs as low as possible to ensure our families have the lowest possible tuition rates.
Can I make a financial contribution to the school? Absolutely! We are very thankful for BCP member and community support! Our supporters can now make donations on our website, by mail, or in person. Can I donate classroom supplies, educational toys, books, or learning resources? Absolutely! Our program is continuously growing from generous donations made by BCP families, community members and local businesses. What is the student scholarship program? In 2021, Brighton Cooperative Preschool founded its scholarship program to help provide financial assistance to Livingston County preschool students and their families. Our preschool program provides children with a strong foundation in pre-academic skills, life skills, and social skills setting them up for success when entering into kindergarten. We strive to increase preschool program accessibility and make a positive difference within our community. We are actively seeking a sponsor to help us with the scholarship program.
