Programs
At Brighton Cooperative Preschool, we believe that learning should be hands-on, fun, messy, creative, engaging, and include lots of movement. Our teacher uses a play-based method of learning to help children meet developmental milestones and prepare them for kindergarten. Children who attend BCP learn to share, follow a classroom routine, and follow instructions in a nurturing environment. With parent and grandparent volunteers helping out in the classroom, our preschool children have a lot more assistance and loving support.
Children also have the opportunity to strengthen their social skills and peer interaction by learning to take turns in games, participating in group projects, and role-playing with their friends. Arts and crafts are a daily part of our program with a variety of mediums and tools for children to explore their creativity. Children have the ability to explore with magnifying glasses, cut with scissors, use tweezers, play with playdough, draw with shaving cream, explore textures with fun sensory activities, and explore science experiments. Our educational activities, STEM activities and resources are always changing and improving thanks to the generous donations from our BCP family and community members.
New and interesting classroom books are read daily during circle time. Preschool skills such as identifying colors, shapes, numbers, lower and upper case letters, letter sounds are addressed with multi-sensory learning activities designed to keep their interest and attention. Our teacher understands that each child develops skills at a different rate and children are encouraged to learn at their own pace.
Children who attend BCP have daily outdoor recess where they can dig and drive construction cars in the sand, play ball, blow bubbles, climb, run, slide, and play in the clubhouse with their friends. Our preschoolers have the opportunity to attend monthly fieldtrips in the community such local farms, nature center, the Brighton Fire Station, dance class, gymnastics class, sports activities, and the zoo. Our goal is to help children develop a lifelong love of learning.
We recently added the Parent-Tot program to our school, this program is geared towards 2-3 year olds and was created for children to experience school with their caregivers. Children in the parent tot program have a chance to play, experience circle time and have snack together. Their caregivers get the chance to socialize and meet other parents in the area.
